June 14th is Flag Day

pink belly

the beach on a dark day
one half of a seashell
it’s pink belly begging to be touched
one cloud in the sky
lingering
facing the mirror, he
says jesus christ is
a dead man
says there are fathers
in this world who would
murder their own children
without hesitation
poets who would
consume the host and
vomit up the blood
of the raped
who would call it art
the simple
fact that it exists
enough to make it
beautiful
Skinned
Having successfully pulled off my skin
I lay it atop the pallid mannequin.
Free now,
I begin taking her apart.
She can work at different clubs,
maybe she can do a U.S. tour.
I’ll send my hands to Seattle,
keep my head in New York,
send my legs to L.A.
I’ve been struggling with where to send my belly,
but Las Vegas is sure to have my ass.
And the leftovers? Who’s to say?
I’ve always been good at cutting things off,
finding places to hide them.
